A new community micropub for Camberwell

We are asking for planning permission to turn 332C Camberwell New Road (formerly Luki’s Beauty Bar) into a micropub.

But what is a micropub?

According to the Micropub Association, it is “a small freehouse which listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks.”

This is what we want to bring to Camberwell.

Our focus would be on supplying beer that is brewed locally here in South London. There are now over 40 breweries in South London, many of which have started brewing in the last few years.

The plan for the Camberwell Shark

We will keep things simple: no hot food, no amplified music, no Sky Sports. The focus will be on high quality local refreshment and conversation in a convivial environment; we want people to arrive as strangers and leave as friends. We will keep limited opening hours, with last orders at 10.30pm and all customers to have left the premises by 11pm, and do not plan to open at all on Sundays and Mondays.

We will offer quality rather than quantity. Alongside cask beer, we will provide a limited range of wine, spirits and soft drinks. Our initial plan is to only open in the evening Tuesdays to Thursdays but once we are up and running, we will explore whether we could open as a child-friendly community space during the daytime, serving teas and coffees alongside our usual offering.

Who we are

We have a variety of backgrounds in business, finance, television and the public sector. Graham lives locally and helps run the Burgess Park ParkRun. And we all try to get to as many Dulwich Hamlet games as we can.

We are very much looking forward to becoming part of the community in Camberwell.
